Ivy HIll Park HIstory

In 1927, the City of Newark designated 18 acres of land to establish Ivy Hill Park in order to accommodate the recreational needs of MaplewoodNewarkSouth Orange, and Irvington.
Ivy Hill Park is a neighborhood park designed by the Olmsted Brothers. The original tract of land measured 18.86 acres, which was added to slightly until the final acreage of 18.96 was achieved in 1938. The park's most distinguishing amenities are ten excellent hard surface tennis courts which are shared with the Seton Hall University athletic department, along with their women's softball field. The park also includes a little league baseball field, a combination football/soccer field, a band concert area, a lighted basketball court, as well as a playground and shelter.
